在公有雲服務環境的虛擬機器，以及建置在企業內部的伺服器、虛擬機器，都可能會面臨在開機前攻入的惡意軟體，以及經由韌體rootkit感染系統的威脅。
以Google Cloud Platform（GCP）而言，在2019年4月，正式推出「受保護VM（Shielded VMs）」的特色，強化虛擬機器的開機安全，相隔1年後，他們宣布，Shielded VM成為預設組態，用戶不需為這系列特色支付費用。
基本上，用戶在建立任何虛擬機器執行個體的前置作業時，可以先選定開機磁碟，接著在底下的管理、安全、硬碟、網路、單獨承租設定分頁，可選擇是否啟用Shielded VM的三大功能：安全開機、虛擬的可信任模組（vTPM）、完整性監控。
而在機密運算應用上，GCP最初是在2018年推出開原碼軟體框架Asylo，讓大家開發出能在信任執行環境（TEE）執行的應用程式，可用於加密通訊，以及針對在安全 ....

【機密運算解決方案巡禮：IBM】多管齊下發展機密運算

在大型主機提供信任執行環境保護
事實上，若單就System Z大型主機而言，可追溯到2012年發表的zEnterprise EC12，就已經開始主打這樣的特色，後續推出的z13與LinuxONE（2015年）、z14與LinuxONE Emperor II（2017年）、Z15與LinuxONE III（2019年）都不斷強化資料與應用程式加密保護。
到了2020年4月，IBM發表了Secure Execution for Linux的硬體安全技術，內建在Z15與LinuxONE III這兩種系統，針對個別工作負載，提供可延展的隔離機制，防護外部攻擊與內部威脅（insider threats），而有了這樣的機制，無論是將Z與LinuxONE部署在內部網路或混合雲環境，當中所執行的應用程式工作負載，均可獲得保護與隔離。具體而言，Secure Execution for Linux主要是透過硬體型態信任執行環境（TEE）的實作，提供工作負載隔離與強化的存取限制，以達到保護資料的效果。
