Ministers are due to publish a new strategy for tackling obesity this week. Simonjones has the story. The warning from Health Officials is clear if youre overweight or obese and get coronavirus, youre more likely to end up in hospital, more likely to become critically ill. This graph illustrates the scale of the problem, based on a study of over 19,000 people who have tested positive for covid 19. It shows the bigger the bmi, or body mass index, the risk of intensive care increases. Someone who is severely obese has over four times the risk compared to someone who is the normal weight.
