Throwback Thursday: Ambler Grocery Today s installment of Throwback Thursday takes us to the 400 block of North Main Street on the west side. Jim Ambler was one of the earliest settlers of Reno County and homesteaded out by Burrton. Jim passed away in 1894, but his son E.J. (John) Ambler, carried on the family s progressive spirit and opened the North End Grocers, also called the Ambler Grocery in September of 1901. He purchased the store from Colin Campbell, who his father worked for as a delivery man. The first photo of this business is actually dated by the Buckskin Bill s Wild West show posters in the window for Wednesday, Aug. 27. ....
