The event was celebrated late in the morning on Monday, Oct. 11, on the second floor of the Memorial Union. Five members of the Northern Lights Drum Group beat a rhythm on the drum while one member sang a blessing to begin the celebration. According to Daniel Henry, an educator and member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa, the drum was created after an act of violence, but is meant to bring peace to the people who listen to its booming sounds.
