Three newcomers were elected to the Unit 5 school board on Tuesday. Kentrica Coleman, Jeremy DeHaai and Stan Gozur were the top vote-getters as results came in late Tuesday, according to preliminary returns from the county and city election authorities. The trio were among six candidates vying for three open seats. No incumbents sought re-election. Coleman currently serves on Unit 5 s Citizens Advisory Council. She’s also president of the Evans Junior High PTO and works with several booster clubs. She s a technology manager for State Farm. DeHaai is a sales manager at Kroff Chemical Company. The pandemic is what prompted DeHaai to run, he said, noting his top priority is getting students back into the classroom. ....

According to the McLean County Clerk’s Office, Elise Albers and Mollie Emery both dropped out of the race, leaving six candidates to vie for three open seats in the spring. Thursday was the deadline for candidates to withdraw from the April 6 school board elections in Illinois. According to the clerk’s office, Roberto Garcia of Bloomington challenged their petitions, but the candidates withdrew before a hearing was held.
