PORTLAND, Ore. A federal judge in Portland late Tuesday ordered that prisoners be included in Phase 1A of the state s vaccine distribution plan, placing them ahead of senior citizens and teachers.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Stacie Beckerman ruled in favor of the Oregon Justice Resource Center, which brought a class action lawsuit against Gov. Kate Brown and the Department of Corrections. The lawsuit was filed on Jan. 22. This order will now place prisoners in the department of corrections in the same group as hospice workers, long term care workers, and other essential workers.  ....

A federal judge ordered the Oregon Department of Corrections on Tuesday to offer a COVID-19 vaccine to all prison inmates immediately.
More than 40 inmates have died of COVID-19 in Oregon prisons. More than 3,000 inmates have tested positive for the virus.
“This will be a tremendous relief to so many people inside and their loved ones,” the Oregon Justice Resource Center tweeted.

filed a class-action lawsuit on behalf of seven prisoners against the DOC, Gov. Kate Brown and others last spring, saying they weren’t doing enough to protect inmates from being infected with the disease. ....

A judge on Tuesday ordered all inmates in the Oregon prison system to be prioritized for COVID-19 vaccinations a move that should make prisoners immediately eligible for inoculation.
The preliminary injunction orders all Oregon Department of Corrections inmates be offered a vaccine as part of phase 1A, group 2, of Oregon’s COVID-19 vaccination plan putting prison inmates in the same category as people living in nursing homes and other congregate care settings. ....

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) A judge has ordered all inmates in the Oregon prison system to be prioritized for COVID-19 vaccinations a move that should make prisoners immediately eligible for inoculation.
The Oregonian/OregonLive reports the preliminary injunction issued Tuesday orders all Oregon Department of Corrections inmates be offered a vaccine as part of phase 1A, group 2, of Oregon’s COVID-19 vaccination plan putting prison inmates in the same category as people living in nursing homes and other congregate care settings.

The order should make prisoners eligible for vaccines now, but it’s not clear if they’ll move ahead of teachers or the elderly. But given that the Oregon Health Authority dictates where vaccines are shipped, the state has the ability to redirect doses for prisons. ....
