the cone. what about the intensity for them, the warm water of the gulfstream, it won t be stalling out and churning up the water underneath it. what are the rains they could be looking at? if you keep it over the open water a little longer, you ll have more time over that warm water to stay stronger. a little more influence on the coast it could be weaker. it s interesting how that intensity could be impacted by where the track is. either way, you re talking a major hurricane off the georgia coast, by the time it gets to the carolinas, still a hurricane. we have the on shore flow, that s a lot of storm surge. it s pretty amazing how long we re going to have to point to this storm. that s five days from now, and six days off the outer banks? in a is thursday morning. we have a ways to go with this storm. yeah. we ve been dealing with it for about a week now. in the meantime, many of those government planes that are
that s where you ll have some winds and could be dangerous inland. we ve been talking about this storm surge. we re looking at some of the latest values coming in. looks like we have 7.4 feet innundation. you can still have the on shore flow pushing the water inland. you re still not out of danger yet when it comes to the storm surge. we are continuing to forecast 9 to 14 feet at the air force base, up to 14 feet above ground. waves on top of it. some of the images we are seeing, you can see waves that can cause structural damage as well. so getting trapped in these pockets, you get these large amounts of storm surge. well away from the center, you re still not safe.
hurricane force winds in geor a georgia. it is really important. it will still produce those hurricane force winds into georgia. not just the damage winds along the coast. you saw how large the rain shield is. you ll get the winds inland. the idea it s going go into central georgia. we ll still see high winds. at what point does it stop worrying you. at some point it becomes a normal stand that a normal city is handle. at that point it does. one of the worries that i have is once you get inland, we have such a focus on the winds, but if you think about the flow around the hurricane, even when
the flow is counterclockwise and all around this center, now the winds are coming out of the west. look at panama city beach. it s an east-west beach. the water is coming along. no great storm surge. when this is over, the people of bay county at least along panama city beach will be able to look back and say not that the meteorologists missed it, the 155 maximum category four storm, strongest thing you ve seen in the united states in a long time and the worst storm ever to hit this part of the world, ever in recorded history. it didn t hit the big population area. it hid over here. it made a jog of 15 miles. that is the difference in that on the map. it could have just as easily hit panama city beach. in panama city beach, i bet you they got on their knees and said their prayers last night. if they re otherwise inclined, they got extremely lucky. this storm missed destroying
look at this wind field. tropical storm force winds extending out 175 miles. a strong system. so without a doubt, we have some time to go with this. we still need to be careful. flow around this system like this. you ll still have on shore flow on some of the beaches and the panhandle. the water will be slow to come down. some places more water on the way. think about how large this system is. we have tropical storm warnings on the atlantic portion of this storm from georgia and into the carolinas with some of this on-shore. what are the hazards? the rainfall, a dangerous situation with the rainfall. when you have the tropical systems a lot of moisture around the center and in the rain bands. so 6-10 inches of rain potentially. we re moving, the downpours are incredible. with time you ll see 4 to 6 inches in some of the other areas that will cause a problem with the wind and the rain. that is where we can see some trees down, getting into georgia.
