Alarm over Likas lagoon plans | Daily Express Online - Sabah's Leading News Portal

Former Chief Minister Datuk Yong Teck Lee expressed shock that part of the Likas lagoon measuring 16.21 hectares (40.05 acres) – or the size of 40 football fields – has been zoned for commercial development despite initial objection in 2000 and without public consultation.

DE: You have been credited as being the only Chief Minister (CM) who did his best to solve Sabah’s illegal immigrant problem to the extent of demolishing their settlements that were a refuge for criminals and causing millions of ringgit losses in water and electricity thefts. How did you achieve it?
Chong: I was able to mobilise all the various relevant enforcement officials. I succeeded in mobilising the Royal Malaysian Police, the Armed Forces all the Local Authorities, and enforcement officials to work as one team. It was a big family of Malaysians tackling one common problem, which everyone called the ‘Mother of All Problems’ and that is the illegal immigrants.  ....
