Bid to transform vacant space at Springburn Winter Gardens into nursery


City Council to support their plans for a new nursery in the area. 
The trust has developed an £8 million project to transform the Winter Gardens and is asking the local authority to consider the vacant land beside it as a potential site for the next nursery. 
It is hoped that income from the childcare facility would then make the fund for the Winter Gardens Project. 
Trust member Paul Sweeney explained: “There isn’t a proposal yet for a nursery in Springburn and the optimal proposal would be in this woodland setting. 
“The idea is to do a public call for the council to earmark Springburn Winter Gardens for a new nursery as part of the childcare provision of 1140 hours a week. ....

Police probe after pitch at Jock Stein Centre torched by firebugs

A FOOTBALL pitch at a sports hub named after a legendary Celtic boss was torched by a group of youths. 
Police have launched a probe into the blaze at the Jock Stein Centre, Hamilton, which caused damage to a section of a synthetic surface. 
It s not yet known how much repairs will cost at the Hillhouse Road site but council bosses have promised they will take place as soon as possible. 
David Booth, general manager of South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture, said: “A group of youths set fire to six square meters of the pitch surface along with one of the seven-a-side goals. ....

South Side group set up to save Queen's Park glasshouse

COMMUNITY groups are banding together to aim to ensure the future of one of the city s unique glasshouses.
Friends of Queen s Park is spearheading a move to look at how the park s glasshouse might be preserved for the future.
The group is in the process of setting up a steering group to look at what it calls a sustainable business model to make sure the 116-year-old structure is in use for generations to come.
Stephen Docherty, Friends of Queen s Park, said: We want the glasshouse up and running again as a feature in the park and it has to serve the people who live around the park and beyond. ....
