Batavia Downs was the fourth different track that the recently landed Australian import Mirragon A has competed over since starting his North American career in June, but it didn’t dissuade this Aussie from winning the $15,000 Open I Handicap pace on Saturday night (Aug. 19).
A stout Saturday night (Aug. 12) card at Batavia Downs was highlighted by a pair of $15,000 Open Handicap races that were divided by gait, and the winner of each needed a season’s best effort to get the job done.
There was nothing crazy about Just Plain Loco's victory in Buffalo Raceway's $15,500 Open Pace on Saturday night (May 13) as he used a workman-like effort to beat Avion Seelster by a half length in a seasonal best 1:54.3 over the "fast" track.
Launching off cover, Major Hill landed a narrow victory in the $10,500 Preferred Handicap Pace on Sunday night (Nov. 27) at Rideau Carleton Raceway. Outside of the featured race, Stephane Pouliot’s pupils powered over the Ottawa oval to win four of the card’s 10 races.
Guy Gagnon trainee Flash Cube held off his stablemate, odds-on favourite The Light Speed, to score a narrow victory in the $10,500 Preferred Handicap Pace on Sunday night (Nov. 13) at Rideau Carleton Raceway.
