Romero’s Night of the Living Dead zombie series is credited with mainstreaming the horror movie genre. His son, George C. Romero, now wants to popularize the Tampa Bay area as a production hub for such films. “We want to be at the ground level of helping to create an industry that creates jobs,” said Romero, a Kentucky resident with 19 producer and 14 director credits on his IMDB resume. Romero is part of a team of filmmakers under the company Briefcase Pictures that wants to build a movie studio in the Tampa area via a public-private partnership with Hillsborough County.

Triumph Gulf Coast Board approves $18 million to Northwest Florida

Perhaps it was holiday spirit, or maybe just looking to end a bad year on a good note. Something sure had the Triumph Gulf Coast board in a giving mood Thursday, as its membership voted to hand out almost $18 million in new grant awards.  Four grants were provided or agreed to in principle that will help fund projects in Escambia, Santa Rosa, Bay and Walton counties.  Each of these programs will bring either or both new high-paying jobs and certified workforce training, a news release from Triumph said. Santa Rosa County The largest actual grant award  $6 million  went to the Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners for infrastructure improvements at Santa Rosa Industrial Park East.
