A potential serial killer who may be targeting the homeless in Stockton, and who also may have killed a homeless man in Oakland, has rattled nerves and set the unhoused population, especially, on edge.
The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office is trying to find other potential victims of the notorious “Speed Freak Killers,” using items found during a well dug 10 years ago.

Police have made an arrest in one of the Bay Area s most high-profile and terrifying kidnapping cases.
Michaela Garecht was nine years old when she and a friend rode their scooters to Rainbow Market, two blocks from Michaela s home in Hayward, on Nov. 19, 1988. After making purchases of snacks and soda, the girls realized Michaela s scooter, left near the market door, was missing. Michaela spotted it lying in the parking lot and, when she went to retrieve it, a man waiting in the adjacent car leaped out, grabbed her and drove off. The only witness was her young friend, Katrina Rodriguez.
