SAN ANTONIO – James Mallard fell from a bunk bed, suffered a traumatic brain injury, had a stroke, seizure and went into a coma.
“The doctors asked my mom if she wanted to unplug the life support machine because I was in the ICU,” Mallard said. “My mom said ‘no.’ So, my mom gave me a second chance.”
After waking up from the coma, Mallard said he had to relearn basic motor skills and deal with a language disorder caused by the stroke. ....

New UBC research may offer some insight, examining biases towards climate information and offering tools to overcome these and communicate climate change more effectively.
Researchers examined 44 studies conducted over the past five years on the attentional and perceptual biases of climate change - the tendency to pay special attention to or perceive particular aspects of climate change. They identified a number of differences between people of different political orientations, finding that those who were more liberal tended to pay attention to the rising part of a global temperature graph. About the Author
Allison Carriero is a recent graduate from Bridgewater State University with a B.S. in Communication Disorders. She plans to continue with her education by pursing her master s degree and becoming a certified Speech Language Pathologist. During her senior year of high school, she had to create a children s book about a life lesson as a school project out of which Too Tired Tommy was borne. FIREFLY in Kenora-Rainy River is trying to raise its profile as youth and families continue to fight through the COVID-19 pandemic.
Clinical Manager Ashley Apland says they have a number of trained professionals on hand to help you during this difficult time.
“FIREFLY is a multi-disciplinary agency that offers a variety of programs such as Mental Health, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Speech Language Pathology.
Apland adds, “Specific to FIREFLY’s mental health. We’re offering virtual counselling right now via video or phone and we are also offering face-to-face where appropriate. FIREFLY started a virtual walk-in on Thursday. So that means you can call the intake number.” ....
