Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala House witnessed uproarious scenes on Thursday as the no-confidence motion moved by Indian Union Muslim League MLA, M Ummer against Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan was rejected by the House. The House rejected a resolution moved by the Opposition UDF seeking removal of Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan over allegations against him in the dollar smuggling case and ‘irregularities’ in modifications undertaken in the legislature complex.
After a tempestuous debate on the resolution, the Congress-led United Democratic Front members walked out dissatisfied with Sreeramakrishnan’s reply dismissing the charges. This was the first time in last 17 years a resolution for removal of the Speaker was moved in the state assembly. In the past, such resolutions had been moved against A C Jose and Vakkom Purushothaman, both of UDF. ....

Kerala Assembly Passes Resolution against CAG Report despite Opposition from UDF

The Kerala Assembly on Friday passed a resolution against the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report despite strong opposition from the Congress-led UDF over removing parts of the report tabled in the House containing adverse references on the KIIFB. The UDF and the lone BJP MLA opposed the resolution saying it was against constitutional values.
Moving the resolution, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said certain changes in the final report was made by the CAG without hearing the departments concerned and it may affect the checks and balances between the executive and the legislature. The resolution was passed with a voice vote and Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan said the CAG report will be sent for the consideration of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) after removing concerned pages containing the remarks on Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB). ....

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], January 21 (ANI): Kerala Assembly on Thursday rejected a resolution moved against Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan by the opposition United Democratic Front (UDF).
Before the Assembly rejected the resolution, the opposition UDF staged a walkout immediately after the reply by the Speaker.
While the Assembly session is underway, opposition parties have demanded that the Speaker of the Assembly P Sreeramakrishnan be removed over his association with gold smuggling accused.
He is the third Speaker in Kerala Assembly against whom the resolution seeking dismissal from office has been moved. ....

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Assembly on Thursday rejected the resolution moved by the UDF s M Ummer seeking the removal of Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan from his post.
Moving the resolution, Ummer said the Speaker represented the honour of the house, but the serious allegations raised against him have dented the Assembly s reputation.
