The celebration included guests, essay contest and the planting of a seedling from the Salem Oak, a 565 year old heritage tree that was uprooted and fell in June 2019. SPARTA, NJ – In recognition of National Older Americans Month Sparta Township Council issued a proclamation and invited Florance Flossie Meyer to read an essay. The 102-year-old attended the meeting via video with Marianne Dilworth at her side. Meyer read an essay she had written last year as the country was feeling the effects and figuring out how to navigate the pandemic.
