This article originally appeared in Newsletter, published by the Institute of Race Relations in London, in October 1964, four months after Francois Duvalier was re-elected in Haiti as President for life. On the day of his death, 21 April 1971, he was succeeded as President for life by his son, Jean Claude Duvalier.
