The Fayette County Cultural Trust recently won a state award for the three murals painted on a building in Connellsville.
The Pennsylvania Downtown Center announced the winners for their 2020 Townie Awards, and in the category of âPublic Space Improvement,â Downtown Connellsville, an initiative of Fayette County Cultural Trust, won for âConnellsville Public Art â Leading the Wayâ.
Daniel Cocks, the executive director of the Fayette County Cultural Trust, said theyâve been looking to have a public art mural on three sides of the Italian Social Club along Crawford Avenue in the city.
âThe building is in a great location for public art because itâs only a block from the Great Allegheny Passage and right on Crawford Avenue, which sees an average of 8,000 cars daily,â Cocks said. Mainstreet Waynesboro Inc. is one of a handful of community programs in the state to be honored as a Townie Award recipient for 2020, the Pennsylvania Downtown Center announced recently.
Mainstreet Waynesboro, a nonprofit whose sole mission is the revitalization of the downtown’s commercial core, joins Venture Lititz as double winners.
