Former Shuttle Landing Facility to get new 'utility corridor'

Construction on a new “utility corridor” has begun at the former Shuttle Landing Facility, now known as the Launch and Landing Facility, which is run by Space Florida.
According to a July 1, 2021, news release, Space Florida has broken ground on a mile-long corridor project that will provide water, power and communications for prospective commercial and government customers. The 400 acre area is adjacent to the 15,000-foot-long (4,500-meter-long) and 300-foot-wide (91-meter-wide) runway, which is located at Kennedy Space Center, and is expected to include office space, processing and assembly facilities, propellant and fueling facilities and manufacturing. ....

Division but no gridlock
Maybe it’s the lingering divisiveness of the presidential election. Maybe it’s the math of the most closely divided Congress in generations. But in the last two weeks,  several pieces of major legislation passed that split the Florida delegation sharply along party lines, with the rest of Capitol Hill deviating little beyond that.

With the rocket business booming, Congressmen Bill Posey and Charlie Crist want to make sure launches are “made in America.”
On Thursday, they re-introduced the American Commercial Space Act to promote the domestic space launch industry giving tax incentives to launch operators for 10 years if they launch from U.S. soil.
“It levels the playing fielding field against countries such as Russia and China who heavily subsidize launches to attract more customers,” Posey told FLORIDA TODAY last year. ....
