An Aberdeen barber group is giving its entire workforce the day off when pubs reopen later this month to help boost the local economy.
Sovereign Grooming will close its Aberdeen salon on April 26 – the day lockdown restrictions are eased – to allow its team to support local food and drink businesses.
Kyle Ross, Sovereign Grooming’s managing director, said recent closures on the high street, John Lewis in particular, highlighted the importance of businesses standing together this spring.
He stated: “Our city centres are a business eco-system, and when one sector suffers, it has a knock-on effect for everyone. ....

North-east businesses reopen as raft of Covid restrictions lifted across Scotland

Hairdressers, barbers and garden centres can reopen after being closed since Christmas.
People in the north-east can get a haircut, click and collect shopping is allowed and garden centres can welcome back customers as a raft of Covid-19 restrictions are lifted today.
It comes after the stay-at-home order was lifted across Scotland allowing people to travel locally for non-essential purposes.
Other measures lifted include the resumption of in-person teaching, and outdoor sport can also resume for 12-to-17-year-olds.
Sovereign Barbers, which is based on Aberdeen’s Union Street, has had more than 700 bookings this month alone with customers keen to get their first professional haircut this year. ....

An award-winning Aberdeen barber is to open new salons in Edinburgh and Glasgow after securing a funding package to support growth.
The expansion of Sovereign Grooming beyond the Granite City is expected to create 20 jobs.
Sovereign is run by Kyle Ross and backed by investors led by Northumberland firm MB Martin & Partners, which specialises in helping high-potential early stage companies grow.
Alongside the six-figure funding package, Sovereign has agreed a 10-year lease on a 1,118sq ft unit in Edinburgh’s New Waverley development, near the Royal Mile, and will open in the capital next month. ....
