Cape Coral breaks ground on operations building Published: July 22, 2021 6:47 PM EDT The City of Cape Coral will soon begin construction on a new operations building at the Southwest Water Reclamation Facility. Council members and city staff broke ground Thursday on the new building, which will be able to withstand a Category 4 hurricane. The original operations building was built in 1994 and was deemed uninhabitable. The facility treats up to 15 million gallons of wastewater per day. Jeff Pearson, utilities director, said the new facility will help the city be more resilient in the case of a major disaster. “This new facility will ensure that we have uninterrupted service of wastewater for our residents and also protect our residents from potential contamination of the water getting out into the streets.” ....
