CRC held an in-person information session at the Pinnacle Campus on April 17 to present details about the proposed plant and to answer community questions. During the meeting, residents held up signs reading No toxic batch plant and Don t poison Oak Hill in protest of the plan, while representatives with CRC compared Pinnacle to the three other site options.
Two options are located within the project’s right of way near the Scenic Brook community and The Y intersection itself. The third, which CRC said was recently removed from consideration, was a vacant property outside of the Ledgestone community.
The argument for using Pinnacle
Austin-Bergstrom International Airport announced that Allegiant Travel Co. will launch an operations base at the airport’s South Terminal this November.
The new base for the Las Vegas-based airline will expand the airline’s local operations, serving as the permanent home for local flight crews and at least three aircraft. Allegiant will also be expanding hours and flight offings out of Austin.
The $75 million investment will bring new job and economic growth opportunities to Central Texas, according to an April 6 press release by the airport.

Vendors from the weekly Barton Creek Farmers Market will soon be launching a second market on Sundays in the city of Sunset Valley.
Sunset Valley City Council on April 6 approved a special-use permit that will allow the market to open each Sunday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at 4805 W. Hwy. 290, Sunset Valley, located within the Kohl’s parking lot.
More than 40 possible vendors for the market were listed in the application, offering products including meats, dairy, fresh produce and prepared foods. The market will also feature local artists and crafters who will sell their products at the site.
The new market will be the third operating in South Austin when it launches. Currently, the Barton Creek Farmers Market operates on Saturdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Barton Creek Square Mall, 2901 S. Capital of Texas Hwy., Austin, roughly 1 1/2 miles northwest of Sunset Valley.
The Sustainable Food Center is temporarily closing its Sunset Valley farmers market at the Toney Burger Activity Center as Austin Public Health and Austin ISD convert the venue into a new vaccination site.
According to the Sustainable Food Center, vendors and shoppers are invited to participate at the nonprofit’s downtown farmers market at Republic Square Park, 422 Guadalupe St., Austin, while the Sunset Valley location is not available. The Republic Square event is held each Saturday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
At a March 5 press conference, Cassandra DeLeon, the assistant director of Austin Public Health’s Disease Prevention Health Promotion Division, said the Toney Burger Activity Center could open as a new vaccination center in the coming weeks. The center is located at 3200 Jones Road, Sunset Valley.
