IRCTC News: Southern Railways cancels six trains due to poor patronage and low occupancy

Amid the ongoing pandemic, the Southern Railway on Friday cancelled three pairs of trains connecting the southern districts of Tamil Nadu due to poor patronage and low occupancy. Train No 02205 Chennai Egmore-Rameswaram daily special is cancelled from May 16 to June 1.
Recently, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) zone announced the cancellation of several special train services, starting from May 12, 2021. According to the zonal railway, 18 special trains have been cancelled till further advice due to poor patronization, while 13 special trains have been fully cancelled due to track maintenance in Howrah Railway Division.

Thiruvananthapuram, May 6 : Covid cases continue to surge in Kerala on Thursday, touching a record high of 42,464 cases after 1,55,632 samples were tested, even as the state government announced a total lockdown from Saturday till next Sunday.
A statement issued here by state Health Minister K.K. Shailaja also said that the active cases stood at 3,90,906.

Covid cases continue to surge in Kerala on Thursday, touching a record high of 42,464 cases after 1,55,632 samples were tested, even as the state government announced a total lockdown from Saturday till next Sunday.
A statement issued here by state Health Minister K.K. Shailaja also said that the active cases stood at 3,90,906. All these figures, including the test positivity rate of 27.28 per cent, are the highest ever since the pandemic broke out last year. The customary daily briefing by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan surprisingly was not held. The only solace in the day was 27,152 people were cured taking the total cured to 13,89,515.
No mask on our premises will attract Rs 500 fine: Southern Railway
The new rule of the railway comes into immediate effect and extend for six months until further notice, a press release said here.

NEW DELHI: Southern Railway on Saturday said a fine of Rs 500 would be imposed on passengers who do not adhere to COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) while on a railway station premises or on a train journey.
In reference to the orders from various state governments on fines for not wearing masks in public places, Southern Railway said the Railway Board has authorised all zonal railways to collect the fine from people not wearing face masks on railway premises, including aboard trains.

Share Article Ravi Valluri took over as the principal chief commercial manager of Southern Railway on Monday.
Mr. Valluri, a 1987-batch officer of the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS), succeeds R. Dhananjayalu, who has been posted as principal chief operations manager of South Central Railway.

He has served as the principal chief operations manager, North Central Railway, Allahabad.
Mr. Valluri has more than three decades of experience in various capacities in Operations, Commercial, Planning, Safety and General Administration wings of the eight zonal railways. He was awarded the prestigious COAS (Chief of Army Staff) commendation medal while working in MILRAIL (Military wing of Railways, an extension of Traffic Directorate of Ministry of Railways), according to an official release.
