SEVIERVILLE â Acknowledging âa measure of sentimentality and sadness,â Sevier County Bank President and CEO Bobby Stoffle spoke Wednesday of the announcement of a planned merger with SmartBank. Pending regulatory reviews, the merger should be completed by the early third quarter of this year. If approved, customers will likely begin seeing changes in the fall such as the SmartBank name on buildings. âThereâs a measure of sentimentality and sadness,â Stoffle said of the move. Sevier County Bank was established in 1909. Currently, Sevier County Bank operates six local branches and one in Richmond, Virginia. That location operates as Southern Community Bank. When the announcement was made in November 2020 about the new Virginia location, it marked Sevier County Bankâs first expansion outside the area. ....

Sevier County Bank, which expanded into Richmond last fall as Southern Community Bank, is set to be acquired by SmartBank, a much larger competitor from its home state. While the bulk of both banks’ assets and presence is in Tennessee, John Presley, a longtime Richmond banker who serves as SCB’s executive chairman, said the deal will accelerate the growth SCB had planned for Richmond. ....

From an office in Innsbrook, Presley and a group of six employees in recent weeks launched Southern Community Bank, an offshoot of Tennessee-based Sevier County Bank created specifically to serve as a new bank for the Richmond market.
