Man dead in Delray Beach; teen arrested in connection to fatal shooting

Johnson St. Louis, 21, was shot several times just before midnight Wednesday on the 800 block of Southeast Second, north of Linton Boulevard and west of Dixie Highway.
Paramedics took St. Louis to Delray Medical Center, where he died of his injuries, according to city police.
City police said they arrested a 15-year-old at an unknown address in Delray Beach with the assistance of U.S. Marshals.
The Palm Beach Post does not name juveniles accused of a crime unless they are charged as adults. The Palm Beach County State Attorney s Office will decide whether to bring adult charges against the 15-year-old. ....

PENDLETON â The soft opening for the motel formerly known as The Whiskey Inn began on a sidewalk on Southeast Second Street.
About a half-dozen of Pendletonâs unhoused residents gathered Thursday, April 1, across the street in front of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, where Paula Hall, the chief executive officer of the Community Action Program of East Central Oregon, explained why the new homeless shelter and transitional housing project had been renamed the Promise Inn.
âWe are making a promise to the homeless population and a promise to the community that we are going to keep this as an asset,â she said. ....

'I see us being the next L.A.': Business owners on the east side grow weary of issues with transients

Ongoing issues with transients, such as break-ins, burglaries, theft, drug activities including shooting up in public, used needles left on the ground, loitering, urinating and defecating in public, panhandling and myriad other issues are cited as the reason that frustrated business owners on the east side are meeting with Ontario Police Chief Steven Romero on Friday.
Some of the problems with theft have been going on for years, but business owners in that area say it has become increasingly worse. Several reasons are cited, including the break-up of a well-established transient camp along the Snake River in November of 2019, as well as the fact that the Malheur County Jail isnât lodging people who havenât committed a major crime, a step Malheur County Sheriff Wolfe has said was made due to needing to limit inmate numbers because of COVID-19. ....
