Candidates named: Ballot drawn for division 3 by-election


Deanna Beatson will top the list, followed by Dave Bauer, Grant Mathers, Leyland Barnett, and Christian Shepherd.
Present at the Rockhampton Showgrounds for the draw were Ms Beatson with her daughters, as well as Mr Mathers, and Mr Barnett.
Mr Mathers, the brother of councillor Cherie Rutherford, said he had spent his whole life in division 3 and would listen to the concerns of its constituents.
But he began by speaking about road safety, crime, and the cost of living in Rockhampton.
“Cost of living is something that’s very important to me as well as a single dad with two lads still at home with me,” he said. ....

A round of applause began the Rockhampton Regional Council meeting on Tuesday as new Mayor Tony Williams chaired his first meeting.
Cr Williams paid thanks to the councillors, council staff and the community for their patience over the past month during the by-election and said he was eager to take Rockhampton to the next step.

Doblo officially nominates for mayoral position


Dominic Doblo has officially registered to run for mayor, with just an hour to spare before the nominations closed.
The ‘fruit king’ is no stranger to elections, having run in both council and state elections over the years.
He ran for mayor in the Rockhampton Regional Council Mayor in 2012, 2016 and pulled out at the last minute for this year’s council election.
Mr Doblo is well known for his opposition to the South Rockhampton Flood Levee project and wants to upgrade the CBD and sporting fields around town with the money instead.
He is also an avid advocate for the Fitzroy Gap Dam and has a passion for backing local business. ....
