Gun rally a success, but will it change anything?

The May 8 gun rally in Dover was attended by 1,000 people, and from the photos I saw, it looked like they were all well behaved. How much this will affect the outcome of the two Senate bills now before the House? I don’t know, but if the vote goes along party lines, both will pass.
I understand that those who represent Wilmington and New Castle County want to stop the senseless shooting that happens almost every day up there, but neither of these bills will accomplish anything toward that end. Do they really believe that some kid who thinks he has been insulted on social media is going to stop by his local gun store, fill out a background check, go to a class on how to handle a pistol, pay all the associated fees and wait for all the paperwork ....

I didn’t give you quite enough information about the Coast Guard’s requirement for a cut-off switch on boats of less than 26 feet. That requirement applies to boats manufactured after Jan. 1, 2020. Thanks to a sharp-eyed reader who pointed that fact out to me in an email and directed me to a Coast Guard site that explained the situation much better than their press release.
I hope not too many folks did as I did and ordered a cut-off switch for their boat based on my mistake. Fortunately, I was able to get the correct information before I paid an outboard mechanic to install the switch. I will keep the switch on my desk to remind me to be much more careful when reading press releases. ....

Surf-fishing permits are a hot topic again

It would appear that some very important people did not get surf-fishing permits for 2021. That has caused DNREC’s Division of Parks to put in motion a plan to issue 1,000 more permits. However, the plan is not set up at this time and will be announced at a future date.
We do know that in order to purchase a surf-fishing permit, you must first acquire a voucher on a day to be announced. These will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis. Each voucher is good for one surf-fishing permit, and they will not be sold online. Another person may pick up a voucher for you, but they must have all the information needed including the license plate number and registration name for the vehicle. Firefighters and EMTs must have a signed application form from their fire company when redeeming a voucher to obtain a 2021 surf-fishing permit. Residents and nonresidents may apply for a voucher.
