Pic: elissa darwish By Elissa Darwish | The Peninsula Doha: Souq Waqif, the traditional market which is a historic remnant of the previous century’s commerce in the Gulf, remains vibrant during Ramadan despite the pandemic. Due to COVID-19 related restrictions, it remains open only on weekdays with precautionary measures in place. At 9.30pm, visitors, both of local and foreign origins, begin to swarm the main streets of the Souq. Most are middle-aged, but a few youths hang around coffee shops, enjoying their evening refreshments. ....
Mahaseel Souq attracts large number of customers 11 Jan 2021 - 8:38 Pictures by Abdul Basit / The Peninsula By Sanaullah Ataullah | The Peninsula Doha: With its wide variety of fresh local produce being sold at cheap prices, the Mahaseel Souq at the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) has been attracting large number of customers during weekends. Located in the Southern Area of Katara, Mahaseel Souq witnessed many customers on from Thursday till Saturday last week, the first time it operated since the conclusion of the fifth edition of Katara’s Mahaseel Festival where it was the major feature. The weekly market offers vegetables, fruits, honey, dairy and poultry products, flower, herbal and ornamental plants directly from local farms to customers at competitive prices. ....

One of the major touristic hubs in the country, Souq Waqif has inspired countless artists for its unique structure which exudes a distinctive ambience which takes visitors back in the past. ....

[ laughter ] anthony: the food of oman is a mix of flavors and ingredients and tastes from arabia and from all over oman s former empire. bait al luban is an old boarding house turned restaurant. where you can try dishes like pakora, and kashori. which both came back from india. chapati from east africa, and shuwa, oman s classic special event dish. they do one version one version or another of this all over the world, but shuwa is special. they slather a goat with a spicy paste consisting of cumin, coriander, red pepper, cinnamon, ....
