Miss World Laos gives up crown due to age controversy

Souphavady Phongsavanh has surrendered the crown of Miss World Laos 2021 after she allegedly misrepresented her age in the pageant.
The Laotian beauty queen made an announcement on Facebook.
“I, Souphavandy Phongsavanh, Miss World Laos 2021, surrender my title as of today as I am unable to hold my position. I am unavailable to respond to questions at this time.”
“I apologize to the contest management and panel of judges who had entrusted this title to me. I thank all the people who sent me messages of support.”
Moments after Souphavady was crowned, a government-issued ID leaked on social media which showed that the beauty queen was actually 30 years old, not 26 years old as reported. ....

Miss World Laos surrenders crown following age controversy

VIENTIANE, April 4: Laos beauty Souphavady Phongsavanh (
pic) has surrendered the crown of Miss World Laos 2021 following the controversy surrounding her legal age,
reports Laotian Times.
The beauty queen made an announcement on her personal Facebook page, which reads:
“I, Souphavandy Phongsavanh, Miss World Laos 2021, surrender my title as of today as I am unable to hold my position. I am unavailable to respond to questions at this time.”
The first line was followed by a folding-hands and sad face emoji.
“I apologise to the contest management and panel of judges who had entrusted this title to me. I thank all the people who sent me messages of support.” ....

Miss World Laos accused of misrepresenting age - ID cards says she is 30 but she claims to be 26

The Miss World Laos 2021 competition took place on Wednesday night (March 31) at Landmark Riverside Mekong Hotel, Vientiane Capital.
Souphavady Phongsavanh was selected as the new Miss World Laos, becoming the representative for Laos at the Miss World 2021 pageant to be held in Puerto Rico in December this year.
After the announcement, however, a photograph of Souphavady’s government-issued identification card was leaked to social media, with her birth year listed as 1991, despite the contestant claiming to be only 26 years old.
Social media users began to comment about Miss Souphavady’s age, saying she should be disqualified for being over the age limit required to enter the contest. ....
