plus, house democratic leader nancy pelosi on the president s re-election campaign. i think he should run against this do-nothing congress. and off the trail to give us a primary preview phil rucker of the washington post and neil king of the wall street journal. i m candy crowley, and this is state of the union. ignoring the iowa caucuses, jon huntsman planted himself here in the granite state, holding events, answering questions, signing autographs, shaking thousands of hands the works. huntsman hopes to pull a santorum in new hampshire. that was the plan anyway when we talked to him three weeks ago. i m putting you on early notice that we re going to win the new hampshire primary. at the moment, the best poll for jon huntsman shows him in a race for third. i spoke with him just before last night s debate and his prediction has changed slightly. we re going to do well. you try to forecast to the best of your ability based on the information you ....

vladimir putin and the protests in russia, and the euro s chances of survival. finally, what are we bringing back from iraq? you ll be amazed. but first, here s my take. time magazine announced its person of the year this week the protester. from the arab spring to athens, from new delhi to new york, people power is stronger than it s ever been. and now it s reached moscow with the protests there last week. the great drama of russian history has been between its state and society. put simply, russia has always had too much state and not enough society. historians have pointed out that the russian nation was literally the property of the czar, that serfs were more like slaves than simply peasant workers as they were in europe, and that the country lacked any institutions that contested the authority of the government. the communist takeover in 1917 only enhanced these features by building a soviet superstate that dominated every aspects of people s lives. when ....

i m joe johns in for candy crowley, and this is state of the union. the white house has led a very public campaign for the payroll tax cut extension which would save average and working americans $1,000 in higher taxes next year. after weeks of negotiations, a break-through. the senate yesterday voted to extend the tax cut and unemployment benefits for just two months. the house still has to act. president obama seems satisfied but he let congress know he is not backing off a full-year extension. it would be inexcusable for congress not to further extend this middle-class tax cut for the rest of the year. it should be a formality, and hopefully it is done with as little drama as possible when they get back in january. but he made no mention of the keystone xl pipeline compromise. to get republicans onboard, democrats agreed to a provision which says the president must make a decision within 60 days on extending an oil pipeline from canada to texas. the president ....

here in washington last night, but the real punches were thrown in des moines. let s be candid. the only reason you didn t become a career politician is you lost to teddy kennedy in 1994. the last thing bibbyi netanyu needs to have is not just a person who is an historian but also someone who is running for president of the united states stand up and say things that create extraordinary tumult in his neighborhood. if you want a difference, michele bachmann is the difference. if freddie mac is bailed out by a bailout, so i think, newt, you got some of our taxpayer money. if you will cheat on your wife, if you will cheat on your spouse, then why wouldn t you cheat on your business partner or why wouldn t you cheat on anybody for that matter? back in 1984, newt, i was running for the united states senate and i did not support an individual mandate and i was a conservative. you strayed on that issue as you have on others. the record is important. and president ....
