films that help tell the story of the century. henry ford s mirror of america shows a glimpse of life in the united states between 1914 and 1930. henry ford developed the ford film department to document current events, culture, and to produce industrial films. in 1963, the ford motor company donated over 5000 films to the national archives as a gift to the american people. the national archives reduced this documentary the same year to show highlights of the ward collection ford collection. at his highland park plant, he organized a motion picture department which through the years produced films that were shown in theaters and schools throughout the country, newsreels and documentaries that touched on nearly every facet of american life.
