Girl forced into car and abducted in Cheshire | Chester and District Standard


POLICE are appealing for information after a teenage girl was forced into the back of a car and abducted in Cheshire.
The 16-year-old was made to get into the back of a silver vehicle by a ‘young man’ outside a convenience store on Cherry Lane in Lymm at about 7.45am on Tuesday, May 11.
She has since been located ‘safe and well’ and did not suffer any injuries during the incident.
Cheshire Police have since arrested a 17-year-old boy on suspicion of kidnapping in relation to the incident, although he had been released on conditional bail.
Detective constable Sophie Davies said: “I want to reassure the public that this was a targeted incident, and since it was reported to police we have been following a number of lines of enquiry to establish the circumstances around what exactly has taken place. ....

The Portishead Independents retained a seat on North Somerset Council that went up for grabs in a by-election yesterday (May 6).
The group s candidate Caroline Goddard won the Portishead East seat on the council with 40 per cent (768) of the votes. ....

Charity providing vital Covid assistance handed £6K donation


A POWYS charity that has continued to provide vital support to local residents during the coronavirus pandemic has been handed a donation of more than £6,000.
NFU Mutual agents and staff at the local Hay-on-Wye branch nominated local charity Hay and District Dial-a-Ride to receive a donation of £6,451 from the agency’s national £2million ‘Agency Giving Fund’.
In light of the national emergency the UK continues to face, NFU Mutual, the UK’s leading rural insurer, announced this fund in February to help local frontline charities during 2021. This follows £1m of support delivered by the fund last year, which helped charities across many sectors to keep their life-changing services going throughout the pandemic. ....

People with disabilities are angry they are not being given an equal opportunity to stand for election.
Harriet Clough, a wheelchair user, currently represents Bristol’s Hengrove and Whitchurch Park ward but is not seeking re-election because government support was “quietly killed off”.
Paul Welton, a deaf candidate for the Portishead East by-election, said he had been denied government funding for a sign language interpreter at the count or a briefing.

DRIVERS employed by the bus privateer Go North West, marked five weeks on indefinite strike against £2,500 per annum pay cuts with a powerful 1,000-strong cavalcade, rally and march in Manchester on Saturday afternoon.
Unite union branch chair and strike leader Colin Hayden told the rally ahead of the march: ‘This is day 35 and we’re stronger than ever.
‘We went on indefinite strike against the fire and rehire of 500 drivers. The company has tried to impose worse sick pay, worse pay and conditions. But we’re solid. We’re out and we’re staying out, it’s as simple as that. ....
