SHAW applies for Board seat

The Ketchikan School Board on Wednesday is set to interview former Board President Trevor Shaw to potentially fill the vacant seat on the board. Shaw was the only person to apply for the spot, left vacant by the resignation of Vice President Sonya Skan earlier this month.
The application period closed at 4:30 p.m. last Monday.
Board policy states that the board must fill vacant seats within 30 days, and must interview all applicants for the position. The board accepted Skanâs resignation on May 4.
Shaw was elected to the School Board in 2013 and served as the board president until 2018.
In 2015, while serving on the board and as the chairman of the House District 36 Republicans, Shaw unsuccessfully ran for a seat on the Ketchikan Gateway Borough Assembly. ....

SB extends deadline to apply for interim SI

The Ketchikan School Board on Tuesday evening set clearer terms for its search for an interim superintendent and consequently extended the deadline to apply for the position until Friday to allow potential applicants to take the clarifications into account with their submissions.
The board also approved a contract with the Alaska Association of School Boards to conduct a full search to help the board find a permanent superintendent, and formally accepted the resignation of Board Vice President Sonya Skan.
The board directed Board President Kim Hodne to convene a hiring committee to help evaluate candidates for the interim position. The committee will include representatives from the board, Ketchikan Indian Community, the Ketchikan Education Association, the Ketchikan Leadership Organization and parent representatives. ....

PUBLIC input sought on SI search process

The Ketchikan School Board will continue its search for an interim superintendent on Tuesday evening with a special meeting to allow members of the community to weigh in on the selection process.
On Wednesday, the board accepted the resignation of Superintendent Beth Lougee, appointing Ketchikan School District Business Manager Katie Parrot as acting superintendent while the board looks for a longer-term interim replacement.
The board accepted applications for interim superintendents on Thursday and indicated that it would stop accepting applications the day after the special session.
The board scheduled Tuesday s meeting to allow members of the public to communicate with the district about their expectations, after the president of Ketchikan s teachers union on Wednesday said the board had not consulted her or her organization in its search for an interim superintendent. ....
