Faribault Superintendent Says No Mask Requirement this Fall
Todd Sesker, Faribault Public Schools Superintendent told KDHL today during AM Minnesota at the Rice County Fair there will be no mask requirement for students, teachers or staff indoors this fall.
Earlier this week the American Academy of Pediatrics came out with a recommendation for universal masking in schools for everyone older than age 2.
The medical organization urged in-person learning for the fall.
As we start the 2021- 22 school year, a large portion of students are not eligible to be vaccinated, and there are COVID variants that are more contagious,   said Sonja O Leary, chair of the AAP Council on School Health Executive Committee. ....

Masks in schools: NY districts wait for answers from state


New York State Team
New York has yet to issue guidance on masking in schools this fall, and parents and school districts are getting conflicting advice from national medical sources about the safest course of action for students. 
But New York has yet to issue formal guidance regarding masking in schools this fall, leaving school districts without clarity on whether they will be mandated when students return.
On Thursday, the state Department of Health signaled it had not yet made a decision.
“New York State continues to review the new CDC guidance and daily data outcomes, communicate with education stakeholders across the state and will ultimately make our recommendations for the fall based on what is in the best interest of public health, particularly when it comes to children, DOH spokesperson Abigail Barker said in a statement. ....

Despite COVID Surge And Advice From Health Experts, Most Kansas Students Won't Have To Wear Masks

Most school districts have either said masks won t be required when the fall semester begins, or haven t decided. That conflicts with some expert advice.
WICHITA, Kansas Overwhelmingly, the guidance from doctors and health agencies to schools weighing whether to require masks goes like this:
Unvaccinated people including elementary students, for whom the COVID-19 shot isn’t yet available should continue wearing face coverings at school.
The message comes as the highly contagious delta variant continues to spread through Kansas and rage through next-door Missouri, fueling a new surge of hospitalizations. The vast majority of cases are among unvaccinated people. ....
