People had to wait for hours to get the vaccination at Vesu area in Surat city Surat: Chaotic scenes are being witnessed at the vaccination centres in the city and many people have had to return home with the jab ever since the system of send smses to those above 45 years has started. Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) officials claimed that the majority of those who received smes reached the centre in the morning due to which there was crowding. Along with sms, the local staff at centres distribute tokens to those who have come as early as 8 am and are standing in queue. Actual time for vaccination as per the sms is 10am to 5pm. ....
Surat: Four street urchins addicted to liquid adhesive for intoxication were rescued from Soni Faliya by a coordinator of Friends for Women and Children (FFWC), an initiative of CID (crime). Piyush Shah, the coordinator, saw the four children aged between eight and 15 years smelling some liquid. When Shah stopped them, they threw away the bottles and started running. They were, however, nabbed with the help of some locals and taken to the police station. “Initially, they were reluctant in disclosing, but later admitted that they regularly smell adhesives for intoxication,” Shah said. It was learnt that of the four children, the eight-year-old and nine-year-old are siblings and are orphans, while the 14-year-old does not live with his parents as he used to be beaten up. They beg and make a living. The eldest, a 15-year-old is employed by a horse cart owner to take children coming to Gandhi Baug on rides. ....
