president and the former president, one stage moderated by jake tapper and dana bash good morning. you relied on cnn newsroom. i m jim acosta in washington right now in delaware. hunter biden s fate is in the hands of a jury. the president s son arrived in court this morning as jurors resume deliberations in his federal gun trial and just about a half hour later, he left the courthouse in wilmington. hunter biden is accused of lying about his illegal drug use when he bought a handgun back in 2018, if convicted of all three charges, he could face 25 years in prison. cnn s evan perez drawing this is from outside the courthouse in delaware. evan wasn t expected that hunter biden would only make a short visit there as the jury deliberates, what s the latest no, jim, i think we didn t anticipate that he would be able to leave during the time that the jury is deliberating. typically defendants have to sit here like the rest of us as we wait for the jury to complete its work
actually having very clear leadership, and so that s when i started, you know, giving people instructions about how to put on their gas mask, giving instructions up to the gallery about where they should move and when they should move, and even unfortunately talking to some members of congress about preparing them in case we have to fight. and part of, unfortunately, being able to win in war and battle is actually making sure that you re in the mind-set that you have to fight, that this is actually happening, and a lot of times people cocoon themselves to protect themselves from the emotional trauma of it, andi was trying to basically break them out. one of the reasons i was the last person to leave is i was worried that somebody was scared or in the corner somewhere hiding. look, i ve seen that happen in combat. i saw 64 marine, country boy cocoon himself in the middle of combat. it could easily happen to any civilian. i didn t want to leave that floor until i knew everybody was out.
don t worry. i love it. he also sent some letters to family members, and this was heart wrenching when i heard about this but you love the fact that you have got these letters that you can read. tell me about why he did this. well, you know, it was more than anything just his personality, and,s to be honor, that was one of my first thoughts after i got the news is i wondered if i did have somewhere hiding, if he would have set a letter aside, saying good-bye, i love you. this is what i want to you do or this is maybe what you should do. when i got his computer back with the rest of his belongings. there was the good-bye letters to the kids and i and his mom and myself. i love that. it s given me so much comfort in so many ways. that was just him. i loved that he did that, and i wasn t surprised at ail. i m seeing a picture of three
