Pony falls down a well in Frankston

Pony falls down a well in Frankston
LAST Sunday, a pony, the property of Mr Bennett, fell down a narrow well at “Cleveden,” Kars Street, but, fortunately, the pony was rescued by a number of willing workers.
It is not known how long the animal had been in the well before it was discovered, but he was down about 10 feet, with his head just out of the water.
The pony is not much the worse for its adventure.

The heads of the two State institutions (State School and Savings Bank), however, thought it worthy of notice and thoughtfully raised a flag in honor of the event.  ....

Mr Williams shot in eye in ‘act of stupidity’

In a spirit of jocularity, a man pointed a starter’s revolver at Mr Williams and pulled the trigger.
Luckily, it contained only blank cartridges. However, the cartridge exploded and the wad hit Mr. Williams in the right eye.
It is feared that he will lose the sight of the eye.
As “The Age” says, the same thing has been done so often with such lamentable results that it is hard to imagine how any sane person with any worldly experience could perpetrate so stupid a joke without thought. ....
