Motocross club told to 'stick to guidelines' or lose support

Councillors wonât back a rapidly-expanding motocross club if they breach regulations and rules handed down by the council.
Just two weeks ago, Somerset Regional Council made amendments to the Kilcoy Motocross Clubâs event management plan in a bid to curb noise and disturbance to nearby residents.
The plan included noise checks and restrictions on PA system operation hours.
But councillor Bob Whalley said at the clubâs weekend event, they didnât conduct a noise reading, which was in breach of their agreement.
While councillors are in full support of the club and the significant amount of tourism it brings to the Somerset region, they are concerned for neighbouring residents. ....

A new playground featuring swings, slides and spinners will be built in Toogoolawah, following extensive community consultation.
The Somerset Regional Council in it s meeting on Wednesday, announced playground builders Willplay will construct a new playground in Childrens Park, Toogoolawah.
The Somerset council flagged Childrens Park for upgrades, due to most play equipment elements no longer complying with the present safety standards for playgrounds.

A budget between $105,000 and $110,000 was set aside for the project, thanks to grand funding from COVID works for Queensland.
Prior to selecting a builder, the council engaged with local user groups to gain feedback about what equipment they wanted in the park. ....

New lights set to improve dangerous road intersection

Up to six new streetlights could be installed and switched on to prevent road crashes and accidents in Coominya.
Following a community request for streetlights to be installed on Cloake St, Coominya, council officers inspected the level lighting in the surrounding area as a matter of safety.
It was revealed improved lighting would increase road safety and there were no existing lights on those streets.
Councillors unanimously agreed to the recommendation at Wednesday’s Somerset Regional Council meeting.
Councillor Sean Chat said it was a “good commonsense outcome”.
“That area at night is very dark, and because the way the road is, people seem to fly around it,” he said. ....
