Conflicts between Afar and Somali regional states are recurring but unlike in the past this time both regions threw serious accusations at each other

Addis Abeba, December 28/2020 – Afar and Somali regional states traded serious accusations after renewed violence over the weekend left scores of civilians and security forces killed.
In the last week of October this year, two separate attacks on two separate occasions in the Afar Regional State have left several civilians dead and injured. Among those who were killed on Oct 28 were two staff members of the federal ministry of education in an attack which was blamed on an unknown armed group by both the Afar regional state and the federal ministry of education. At least 27 people were killed in deadlier attack announced the next day on October 29 by the Somali regional state ....

Addis Ababa – More than 500 pupils attend Bilisuma primary school in Gursum District in Ethiopia’s Oromia Regional State, despite there being, until recently, no school to attend. The schoolhouses had been lying in ruins ever since intercommunal violence swept through the region two years ago.
This meant many of the children from both Oromo and Somali communities who used to attend its classes here were unable to do so. Most classrooms had been destroyed or rendered completely unusable.
Until now. This past weekend (12/12), the International Organization for Migration (IOM) handed the school over to the government and the community, after the Organization had helped with its reconstruction. “Even before the damage, we were barely retaining the school.
