ABA president, other leaders will volunteer for Free Legal Answers

ABA President Patricia Lee Refo will join other leaders from the ABA in volunteering for ABA Free Legal Answers, a virtual legal advice clinic that allows income-eligible users to ask volunteer attorneys civil legal questions.
As part of the ABA Section of Civil Rights and Social Justice’s spring council meeting, Refo will volunteer April 15 with Pauline Weaver, secretary of the ABA; Kevin Shepherd, ABA treasurer; Barbara Howard, chair of the ABA House of Delegates; Reginald Turner, ABA president-elect; Bob Carlson, former ABA president; and Angela Scott, chair of the Section of Civil Rights and Social Justice. ....

Former Boies Schiller lawyer refused to leave new firm after partnership voted him out, lawsuit says

A partner in a firm formed by former lawyers at Boies Schiller Flexner refused to leave after he was ousted for abusive behavior in a partnership vote, according to a lawsuit filed Saturday.
The Feb. 27 lawsuit by law firm Roche Cyrulnik Freedman says partner Jason Cyrulnik was ousted for “abusive, destructive, erratic and obstructive behavior.”
Cyrulnik’s abusive behavior included screaming at partners and attempting to assume control over management decisions, the lawsuit alleges.
“Rather than accept payment for his work and focus on ensuring a smooth transition,” the lawsuit says, “this expelled partner now refuses to leave, attempting to shake down his former firm for millions of dollars he did not earn and to which he is not entitled.” ....

Solo practitioners saw steeper revenue declines amid COVID-19, new report finds

Solo practitioners had a harder time weathering the initial economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic than others in the legal industry, according to a new report that cloud-based company Clio released on Tuesday.
From April through June 2020, solos saw their revenue drop between 5% and 7% more than firms with more lawyers, according to Clio’s
Legal Trends for Solo Law Firms. In May alone, solo practitioners’ revenue declined by 19% compared to the previous year.
The steeper revenue decline came even as the drop in new casework solos experienced was similar to the decreases at larger firms, according to the report. ....
