The Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, has thrown its weight behind the five governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that opposed the presidential ambition of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. Atiku Abubakar, a former Vice President of Nigeria is the presidential flag-bearer of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 general elections.
The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Atiku/Okowa Campaign Organization has faulted the endorsement of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu by a former leader of Afenifere, a pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation. Despite that Afenifere, led by Pa Ayo Adebanjo, had publicly endorsed the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, a former leader of the organization, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, on Sunday endorsed Tinubu when the politician visited him in his home in Akure, Ondo State.
The Pan Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere has stated that the Yoruba people are going to use everything within their power to defend themselves against any external forces. Afenifere said this in response to the tension and security threats caused by terrorists in the South-West region.
