Rupee strengthens by 8 paise to 72.54 against US dollar in early trade


The Indian rupee appreciated 8 paise to 72.54 against the US dollar in early trade on Tuesday amid improved risk appetite and the broad weakness of the greenback in the overseas market.
At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic unit opened at 72.57 against the dollar, then inched higher to 72.54, registering a gain of 8 paise over its previous close.
On Monday, the rupee had settled at 72.62 against the US dollar.
The rupee started on a flat to stronger note this Tuesday against the dollar, tracking the overall weakness of the dollar. Absence of RBI and improved risk appetite in the region could lend support to the currency, Reliance Securities said in a research note. ....

Rupee climbs to 8-week high of 72.83; rises 29 paise against US dollar


The Indian rupee surged by 29 paise to hit an eight-week high of 72.83 against the US dollar on Friday, tracking positive domestic equities and upbeat Asian peers against the American currency.
At the interbank forex market, the local unit opened at 72.98 against the greenback and witnessed an intra-day high of 72.83 and a low of 73.09.
It finally ended with a gain of 29 paise at 72.83 to the US dollar the level not seen since March 26.
On a weekly basis, the rupee has appreciated by 46 paise against the American dollar.
The dollar index, which gauges the greenback s strength against a basket of six currencies, fell 0.10 per cent to 89.71 on Friday. ....

Rupee snaps 3-day winning streak, drops 13 paise to 73.18 against dollar


Halting its three-day winning run, the rupee on Wednesday declined by 13 paise to close at 73.18 (provisional) against the US dollar in line with the fall in the domestic equity market.
At the interbank foreign exchange market, the domestic currency opened at 73.02 against the American currency, but pared the gains to close at 73.18, registering a decline of 13 paise over its previous close.
During the session, the local unit hit an intra-day high of 72.93 and a low of 73.18. On Tuesday, the rupee had closed at 73.05 against the US dollar.
Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback s strength against a basket of six currencies, rose 0.20 per cent to 89.93. ....

Soil Records Help Farmers Improve


Soil recordkeeping initiatives are helping farmers increase understanding of their most important asset.
The Soil Health Benchmark Study, led by Pasa Sustainable Agriculture, and the Million Acre Challenge from Future Harvest CASA are yielding insights for improving soil and showing farmers where they still need to improve.
Farmers discussed their use of records in a mid-March Future Harvest CASA webinar.
The benchmark study was designed in part to compare no-till and tillage systems.
The study uses four types of records: soil disturbance, usually related to equipment activity; livestock activity, pasturing and moving herds; planting and termination dates; and soil amendments — probably the most common record kept by farmers. ....
