One of Iran’s greatest weightlifters is hoping to put his injury
nightmares behind him after beginning his attempt to qualify for the
Paris 2024 Olympic Games at the age of 34.
Liao Guifang continued China’s dominance at the Asian Weightlifting
Championships here in Jinju by breaking two world records and moving
to the top of the Paris 2024 rankings.
Chinese weightlifters are top of the Paris 2024 rankings in four of
the 10 weight categories, and after the Asian Championships which
start in Jinju, Korea tomorrow they may take that number up to seven
or eight.
Sohrab Moradi, the Iranian world record holder who won Olympic gold at
Rio 2016 before his career was blighted by serious injuries, is
returning to action aged 33 and aiming to qualify for Paris 2024.
Ali Moradi is out of the running for the International Weightlifting
Federation Presidential election after being deposed from his own
National Federation by a court ruling.
