senator lindsey graham plans to fight the subpoena. o figh good morning. and welcome to way too early. on this thursday, july 7th. i m jonathan lemire. thanks for being with us. we have a lot to get to this morning. but we begin with breaking news from overseas. we re following reports that british prime minister boris johnson may resign today. this news comes amid a wave of resignations in his government and calls for him to step down. and taking a look at the famed front door there at 10 downing street in london. downing street spokesperson told nbc news that the prime minister will make a statement to the country later today. joining us now live from downing street, we have nbc news senior reporter alexander smith. thanks for hustling to be there for us this morning. what s the latest, what can you tell us about the situation there? this is really an extraordinary and unprecedented situation now. we have widespread reports that prime minister boris johnson will be
business dealings. every single republican voted to authorize the inquiry even though the year-long investigation has failed to uncover wrongdoing by the president. many acknowledge they haven t found enough evidence to actually impeach biden. do you have proof that joe biden acted corruptly to help his son? an impeachment inquiry is not about proof. i don t know that you re going to see a high crime and misdemeanor. how close are you to support impeachment of the president? we re not there. gop leadership has made clear that formalizing the inquiry does not mean impeaching the president is inevitable. republicans argue the move was in response to stone walling by the biden administration when it comes to handing over documents. the president responding shortly after that vote saying, quote, instead of doing their job on the urgent work that needs to be done, they are choosing to waste time on this baseless political stunt. that vote unfolded hours after the presi
what exactly comes next. and nicholas, after taking this week off. the house select committee gets back to it next week. give us a sense of their schedule and the topics they re choosing to explore. right now, there s one hearing that they scheduled so far, that s next tuesday morning, and this hearing is expected to focus on the links between the former president and extremist groups leading up to the attack on the capitol, the oathkeeper, the proud boys, the 3 percenters, those sofrts far right organizations that were part of the violence on january 6th. and that it is possible that they will call the other hearing that was postponed in june over the next week, this being on the roughly three hours during the insurrection where the committee hopes to look at the president s inaction in trying to stop the violence. and that first hearing i suspect we re going to hear the name roger stone quite a bit,
that matter so much. they have a totally different approach. but i definitely could see for the first time he was nervous. steve: he was a little nervous. the whole thing the mainstream media is talking about this morning, the fact that about three-quarters of the way through the speech, what did he do? he reached for a bottle of water. whoever did the stagecraft there, the bottle of water was way over. he had to go over there. there were all sofrts of hash tags all sorts of hash tags, they referred to it as watergate. my favorite was zero dark thirsty. brian: i thought the content of the speech was fantastic. steve: yet all they re talking about is the water bottle. gretchen: it s a big stage. it s always an impossible situation to follow the president of the united states. he s got this great setting and a big crowd. it s tough, republican or democrat, to follow it. steve: there is one other thing and that is it is always one shot. during the state of the
families obviously for a variety of reasons is just not happening. it s harder. it s harder for all sofrts of reason sorts of reason. take, for instance, college. we are expanding educational opportunities. but when you push back college and all of a sudden you re not looking to form a family until 22 at the earliest, and then you re up against the wall of biology. gretchen: what is the answer to try to rebalance society? we don t need to convince people who don t want to have kids to have them. there are plenty of good reasons not to have kids and i celebrate those decisions. we should try to make life easier for people who do want to have children. that is what the book is about. looking at a way forward for people who want to have kids. gretchen: jonathan last called what to expect when no one is expecting. fly for 100 dollars? we re talking round-trip.
