Today at 3 o’clock PM a new City Council will be announced in a press conference as well as their new issue agreement. The Progressive Party, with The Social Democratic Alliance, The Pirate Party and the Reform Party have been in talks for over nine days and have found a way to move forward.
The Progress Party (Framsóknaflokkurinn - xB) will form a majority coalition in thirteen of Iceland's 20 largest municipalities if they can reach an agreement in the current talks in Reykjavík. The
The opening gambit of the now fallen majority in Reykjavik was made clear today when Dagur B. Eggertsson, the sitting mayor, announced that they would approach all negiotiations as a united front, minus the Left Green Movement which has already declared that they are not participating after losing substantially both in the city and nationwide on Saturday.
The Progressive Party is gaining momentum, not only in Reykjavik, but in most places around the country and is clearly the winner of the local elections last Saturday. The biggest changes will be in Reykjavik where the current administration has lost its majority.
