Area here. especially the northern boroughs of new york city. for that reason, we have a winter storm warning extended until 6:00 this evening. that goes for folks in southern connecticut as well. just a real mess in terms of travel. boston getting hit especially hard. about nine inches of snow reported. some of those snowfall rates were up to an inch an hour earlier this morning. so heavy snow coming down, and this will likely not be winding down until after dinnertime tonight. so taking a look at the timeline here, you can see the snow does move out of the new york city area. but still watch out for freezing rain there on the roadways. but boston, for you, it s going to be a later event. we re looking at abouted my night before conditions finally improve and the snow moves out to sea. so taking a look, generally eight to 12 inches. we should have no problem accomplishing that even in cities like boston, certainly southern connecticut and even in jersey, where we re still going to be ....
Hour. it will be dry powdery snow with temperatures in the teens. it s 18 now. behind me is the harbor at plymouth and the boats fishing boats in port. visibility is coming down now. a light chop out here. we have protection from a spit of land and from the jetty that lines the harbor. snowfall rates picking up one to two inches an hour around massachusetts. boston, metro area under a winter storm warning. they won t have as much win. but snowfall totals will be as high as a foot. as you get farther west and inas dst land snowfall totals drop off. big impacts at logan. they have cancelled arrivals and departures. tomorrow already 100 flights have been cancelled. departures out of logan. check with your air carrier. much like on january 2, a cold air mass comes in behind the storm. not as cold as that one and the one the first week of january. highs again tomorrow in the ....
Maria. let s take a look at the weather conditions across the country. it is very cold in the northeast and also across parts of the plains and into the midwest. even portions of the southeast waking up to a little winter weather early this morning. northern georgia picked up a couple of flurries and snow showers this morning. they did have a winter weather advisory in effect. very widespread the cold temperatures across the eastern half of the country. it is still snowing in places like new york city right here, parts of connecticut and new jersey and up into portions of new england. parts of southern new england you re still looking at very heavy snowfall rates. several inches of snowfall expected. the wind has been gusting over 30 miles per hour at times across the northeast. and of course wind chills are going to remain cold over the next several hours across the northeast eventually moderating as we head into this weekend but nonetheless bundle up as you head outdoors today. win ....
Fall across the areas. that is because we do have some of the heavier snowfall rates lifting northwards. we re seeing heavier snow falling across parts of philadelphia and across the new york city area. worst of the storm should be over for the d.c. area within the next several hours. but we are expecting significant accumulations, three to six inches of snow forecast across areas just west of d.c. some of those areas still under warning. philadelphia you could see three to six inches as well. for new york city, two to four inches of snow forecast out here. we are under a winter weather advisory. anywhere from tennessee all the way up to parts of southeastern massachusetts. so timing on the storm system, by early this afternoon, we do think the snow will be over for d.c. still snowing slightly across parts of philadelphia, new york city. you will still see some of the snow but the worst of it coming to an end. in boston that snow is going to start to pick up. out there by the way, acro ....
Karen, what do things look like right now? just watching what has happened at the capital and the white house, the snow has really increased just in the last hour or so. i want to show you a picture of that right now. the snowfall rates are increasing it looks like and the wind has increased as well. beautiful shot coming out of there, but if you are trying to get out on the roads this afternoon, we are going to see significant snowfall. they are saying it is going to really impact greatly right around the metropolitan area with maybe 4 to 8, 5 to 10. the forecast models have really been all over the place. even for new york. it looks like a heavy wet snow there. boston estimated to be 4 to 8 inches. if washington, d.c., sees anything in that 8 to 10-inch range, it looks like it could make the top five march snowfall totals that we have seen since records were kept. for the northeast, the storm system is going to stall a little bit as it moves out toward the atlantic, so that s the r ....
