Smyrna, TN – There was a weekend car fire in Smyrna this past Saturday. Reports indicate the B – Shift Emergency Service Personnel responded to the vehicle fire during the afternoon hours at an automotive shop. The fire was at an oil change business in the 300 Block of South Lowry Street. No injuries were reported and evidently, they were able to get the car out of the oil change stall and into the parking lot. Smyrna, TN - A truck fire shut-down traffic in Smyrna on Interstate 24 West near the Sam Ridley Parkway overpass on Monday. The Smyrna Fire Department responded to the call to find what appeared to be a semi-truck hauling a large dumpster that was fully engulfed in flames. Talbert, History Dept. and Ancient World Mapping Center, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill With An Introduction by Tsering Wangyal Shawa, Geographic Information Systems and Map Librarian, Peter B. Lewis Library, Princeton University Professor Richard J.A. Talbert will outline the attraction and importance of the "Late Ottoman Turkey in Princeton’s Forgotten Maps, 1883-1923" exhibition, which is being launched a century after the Smyrna Fire and the establishment of the Turkish Republic. He will highlight the key role of the German cartographers Heinrich and Richard Kiepert and its remarkably long-lasting impact. Kiepert maps of Asia Minor (Turkey) remained the basis of those made by the Ottoman General Staff, as well as by the British, German, Greek, and Italian armies during and after World War I. (SMYRNA, TENN.) Each year the Smyrna Fire Dept. partners with Nourish Food Bank to collect non-perishable food items donated to help our neighbors in need. Last year alone, Nourish Food Bank provided more than 750,000 worth of meals to families in economic and food crisis across their service communities.
