A Fulani herdsman identified as Awwalu has been arrested by police in Ogun State for grazing his cattle on the premises of the Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka’s Ijegba Estate in Abeokuta.
Three of 23 cows reportedly strayed into the estate located around Ajangboun in Kemta-Idi-Aba in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.
One of the children of the Nobel Laurel, Dr. Olaokun Soyinka, in a statement issued on Wednesday confirmed the incident.
He, however, refuted the rumour following a viral video clip on the social media that his father’s estate was attacked by Fulani herdsmen. ....

Ondo forests: Presidency elevates herdsmen above law, says SMBF

The Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum on Thursday expressed concern over the perceived sympathy of the Federal Government for herdsmen following the ban on grazing by Ondo State government in its forest reserves.
Governor Rotimi Akeredolu had given Fulani herdsmen notice to quit Ondo forests, which drew the ire of the Presidency.
According to the SMBLF, the Federal Government’s action was a continuation of the obsessive attachment to the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria.
The SMBLF in a statement by Yinka Odumakin (South West), Chief Guy Ikoku (South East), Senator Bassey Henshaw (South South) and Dr. Isuwa Dogo (Middle Belt), therefore asked the Federal Government to “withdraw the unjust diktat and allow Ondo to enforce the law.” ....
