Yukon government files $17.3M lawsuit over Carmacks arena construction

The Yukon government has filed a $17.3-million lawsuit against a contractor and insurance company after a project to build an arena in Carmacks was never completed.
Contractor Scott Design Build Inc. signed a nearly $14.6-million construction contract with the Yukon government in 2018 for the 2,500-square-metre facility that was originally supposed to be completed by November 2020.  ....

Issues Of The Environment: Commemorating 30 Years Of The Environmental Justice Movement


Overview
It is widely recognized that the environmental justice movement first gained traction in 1982 in a predominately African-American community in Warren County, North Carolina.  University of Michigan professors Bunyan Bryant (a graduate of EMU) and Paul Mohai were pioneers in the movement.  Bunyan Bryant who in 1972 had become the first African American to join the SNRE faculty attended a meeting at the Federation of Southern Cooperative in Sumter County.  Shortly after, he joined with Professor Mohai in Ann Arbor.
In the early 1990s, during the Clinton years, it was the period when the environmental justice concept “hit the radar” of the EPA and federal government.  Professors Byrant and Mohai led a team of academics and activists to advise the U.S. EPA on environmental justice policy. Climate Adaptation Conference Focuses on Rural Regions

Registration is now open for the March 4/5 conference Bridging Silos: Advancing Climate Adaptation and Low Carbon Resilience in Small Communities and Rural Regions that will be deliveredvirtually by the team at the Selkirk College Applied Research & Innovation Centre in Castlegar.
Bringing to light climate change issues and priorities in rural British Columbia is the focus of an upcoming conference that aims to build the skills and knowledge necessary to reduce carbon emissions and adapt to an uncertain future.
Registration is now open for

Shukri Adan comforts her youngest daughter while she cries because she can’t join her mother, June 28, 2020. Every Sunday Shukri cooks almost 100 meals at home with her brother, Mahad, and some friends from the Somali community, and then delivers them to struggling families around Hackney.

Shukri and five other volunteers make meals three days a week and serve and deliver five days a week from 10am to 5pm.
