Fashion is often dismissed as superficial, but we can chart the course of history through what we wear. Take Hedi Slimane’s latest collection for Celine, which debuted via video on Wednesday afternoon: the designer’s autumn/winter 2021 offering is one that reflects the impact of the pandemic on the way we dress.
Or perhaps I should say, the way we want to dress, because Slimane’s designs are nothing if not aspirational. Staged within the elegant formal gardens of Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte in Maincy, an hour’s drive southeast of Paris, it offered a peek into the future, in which a fully vaccinated population can resume normal life.
