Byelection to a Legislative Council seat from the Legislative Assembly constituency will be held on March 15, said a notification issued by the Assembly Secretariat.
The byelection has been necessitated to fill the vacancy created following the death of S.L. Dharme Gowda, Deputy Chairman of the Council, on December 28, 2020. While the last date for filing nomination is March 4 and the last date for withdrawal is March 8. Polling would be held between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on March 15 and counting would be held after 5 p.m. on the same day.

AAA Former Minister and BJP MLC A.H. Vishwanath, who has been barred by the Supreme Court from being made a Minister unless he becomes an elected member, on Monday met Home Minister Amit Shah’s confidant and BJP national general secretary Bhupendra Yadav in Delhi to discuss how he could get a ministerial berth.
Soon after the meeting, Mr. Vishwanath told reporters that he had offered to quit the current nominated MLC post so that he could become the party’s candidate to contest for the MLC seat to be elected from the Legislative Assembly. The seat has fallen vacant after the death of S.L. Dharme Gowda of the JD(S).

The election for Karnataka Legislative Council Chairman will be held on February 9. Besides, the Karnataka Legislative Council, Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala issued a bulletin, which further said: At any time before 12:00 pm on February 8, any member may give notice in writing addressed to the Secretary of a motion that another member be chosen as the Chairman and the notice shall be seconded by a third member and shall be accompanied by a statement by the member whose name is proposed in the notice that he is willing to serve as Chairman if elected.

Bengaluru, Feb 4 : Karnataka Legislative Council Chairman, K. Pratap Chandra Shetty on Thursday resigned from his post.
After the Janata Dal-S forged a new alliance with the BJP, it was clear that Shetty would have had to resign from his post.
However, on December 15 last year, the specially reconvened day-long session in the Council witnessed uproarious scenes, with Deputy Chairman, S.L. Dharme Gowda being pushed and dragged from the Council Chairman s seat, which he had occupied even before the quorum bell rang.
‘Untoward incidents in the House hold a mirror to the system’
K. Prathapchandra Shetty quit as Chairman of the Legislative Council on Thursday, after reading out a nine-page resignation letter in which he said the recent “untoward incidents” in the House “hold a mirror to the system”, and seeking an apology from the people of Karnataka.
A motion to remove Mr. Shetty had been tabled in the Council and it was set to be taken up for discussion. However, he chose to quit and submitted his resignation to Deputy Chairman M.K. Pranesh. Now, senior JD (S) member Basavaraj Horatti is all set to be elected as the new Chairman.
